Xero renames Files to Documents, and validates tax numbers on invoices

Xero has renamed Files to Documents, where smart document capture lives, and moved it from the Organisation menu to the Accounting menu. John Toon calls it possibly the least controversial thing Xero has done in weeks.

Ryan Pearcy says the change comes after problems in Australia, where documents went missing or lost their categories, something the UK didn't feel as much because fewer firms used it. He's been told the plan is to make it work better for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. So the UK is to blame.

There's one more thing. Xero now validates tax numbers on invoices when it extracts them, which John says brings it back towards parity with Dext, a company he says Xero wanted to destroy at Xerocon. The rest of the panel don't quite remember it that way.
